Hyper Light Breaker Multiplayer Guide: Friends and Randoms

Hyper Light Breaker, the 3D rogue-lite successor to Hyper Light Drifter, introduces a significant new element: multiplayer. This guide details how to play cooperatively with friends and how to utilize the game's random matchmaking system.

Playing Hyper Light Breaker with Friends

To play co-op with friends, you'll need to create a private multiplayer room. From the Cursed Outpost hub, approach the counter to the left of Pherus Bit.

Interact with the counter (usually R1 or RB) to access the Multiplayer menu. Select "Create Breaker Team."

Enable "Password Required" and set a password. Invite up to two friends via your platform's social features (PSN, Xbox, and Steam are supported). The game supports groups of three.

Invited friends will receive an in-game notification (if online) or can join using the invitation link. Alternatively, your team might appear in the "Join Breaker Team" list, allowing friends to join directly.

Once everyone's joined, you're ready to begin your co-op run!

Random Online Matchmaking in Hyper Light Breaker

If you lack friends playing Hyper Light Breaker, the game offers public matchmaking.

In the Cursed Outpost's Multiplayer menu, choose "Join Breaker Team," then scroll to "Join Random Public Breaker Team" at the bottom.

The game will search for available public teams and place you in one if found. After a brief load, you'll join the host's game.

To leave a multiplayer session, return to the Multiplayer menu in the Cursed Outpost. A "Disconnect" option will appear; select it to return to your solo game. Alternatively, simply quitting the game will also end the multiplayer session.
