Harrison Ford remains unfazed by the critical and commercial underperformance of "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," simply stating, "s**t happens." He revealed to The Wall Street Journal Magazine that his motivation for joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe stemmed from a desire for a "good time."
Despite initiating the idea for a fifth Indiana Jones film, believing there was "another story to tell," Ford expresses no regret over its negative reception and estimated $100 million loss. He explained his reasoning: "When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of his life, I wanted one more chance to dust him off and see what happened. I’m still happy I made that movie."
This latest cinematic venture finds Ford joining the MCU in "Captain America: Brave New World," stepping into the role of Thaddeus Ross, originally portrayed by the late William Hurt. This iteration of Ross will feature a more prominent role as the Red Hulk.
Ford clarified that his decision to join the MCU predated any knowledge of this transformation. He hadn't even seen a script for "Brave New World," his participation driven purely by the prospect of enjoyment. He elaborated, "Why not? I saw enough Marvel films to see actors I admired having a good time. I didn’t really know I’d turn into the Red Hulk. It’s like life; you only get so far in the kit until the last page of the instructions is missing."
"Captain America: Brave New World," slated for release on February 14th, promises to be one of the shorter MCU films to date. It marks Anthony Mackie's debut as Captain America, replacing Chris Evans, and will introduce several lesser-known characters from Marvel's extensive lore, including a long-awaited payoff from "The Incredible Hulk" with the arrival of The Leader.
