The creators of the controversial Grand Theft Auto 6 parody, Grand Taking Ages, have successfully launched the game on Steam after its removal from the PlayStation Store. Initially released on PlayStation with AI-generated assets and a May 2025 release date, Sony swiftly pulled the game.

Grand Taking Ages, a management simulator where players run a game development studio, satirizes the long-awaited release of Rockstar's GTA 6. The initial PlayStation Store listing included unrealistic gameplay features and fabricated awards.

Grand Taking Ages is now available on Steam.

Following its removal, the developers, Violarte, made significant changes to secure Steam approval. These included removing the "VI" from the title, redesigning the logo, and updating descriptions to better distinguish the game from GTA 6. While the updated art still bears resemblance to Rockstar's style, it's a less direct imitation.

The game still utilizes AI, specifically for voiceovers, a fact disclosed on the Steam page in accordance with Valve's AI guidelines. The trailer showcases the results of this AI implementation.

The Steam page description reads:

Coming Soon Since Forever! Start your game dev journey in mom's garage! Battle angry fans, dodge ruthless journalists, and perfect the art of "creative" deadlines. Survive on pizza and energy drinks while building your dream studio into... a slightly better garage!

Violarte adopted a proactive approach with Valve, engaging with their team before submission to ensure compliance with their guidelines, unlike their approach with Sony. They cite other projects, such as Grand Theft Hamlet, as precedent for parody protection.

The game's trailer utilizes AI-generated voiceovers.

Despite Steam's approval, Violarte aims to reinstate Grand Taking Ages on the PlayStation Store, citing the implemented changes as justification. They've submitted a request to Sony, highlighting Valve's approval as evidence of the game's revised compliance.

The incident highlights the contrasting approaches of Sony and Valve towards content curation. While Sony's process faced scrutiny, Steam's more lenient policy is well-known.

GTA 6 is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in Fall 2025.
