Gran Saga to close its doors next month

NPIXEL has officially announced the closure of Gran Saga, marking the end of its brief international journey. The game's service will cease on April 30th, 2025, and in-app purchases (IAPs) along with new downloads have already been disabled.

Gran Saga, which saw a successful launch in Japan in 2021, only made its global debut in November 2024. Unfortunately, the game struggled to maintain its momentum outside Japan, lasting just six months before the decision to shut down was made.

The closure is attributed to financial instability and challenges in sustaining a viable service. Despite an impressive start, Gran Saga found it difficult to carve out a niche in the fiercely competitive global market. The mobile gaming sector, particularly the gacha RPG genre, is dominated by well-established titles with loyal followings, making it tough for newcomers to break through without offering something revolutionary.

This development adds to the growing list of gacha RPGs that have been discontinued recently. Just last month, I reported on the closure of My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero, alongside several other games that couldn't withstand the pressures of an oversaturated market. Players often prefer sticking to familiar games, which poses a significant challenge for new or niche titles to survive in the long run.

For those who made recent purchases in Gran Saga and are seeking refunds, you have until May 30th to submit a request. However, please note that refunds may not be possible if the purchased items have already been used or due to other store policies.
