A new game from the creators of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow has been announced

MercurySteam, the Spanish studio behind acclaimed titles like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Metroid Dread, has announced its next venture: Blades of Fire, an action-RPG. Partnering with 505 Games, this dark fantasy adventure plunges players into a world teeming with enigmatic races and terrifying creatures.

A recently released trailer highlights the game's swift hack-and-slash combat, distinctive visuals, and grim, atmospheric backdrop. Gameplay and art style echo elements of Lords of Shadow, while environmental and enemy design draw clear inspiration from Darksiders. Intriguingly, the trailer showcases a mechanical bird, hinting at a traversal mechanic for the protagonist.

Leveraging MercurySteam's proprietary Mercury Engine, Blades of Fire aims to sidestep the optimization challenges frequently associated with Unreal Engine 5 projects.

Target release date is May 22, 2025, for current-generation consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S) and PC (Epic Games Store).
