Elden Ring: Nightreign Hits 2M Day-One Sales

Elden Ring Nightreign sold an impressive two million copies within its first 24 hours.

“Pre-orders and early sales have already driven the game past the remarkable milestone of two million units sold,” publisher Bandai Namco confirmed.

The multiplayer co-op spin-off launched overnight and quickly climbed the Steam most-played charts, peaking at 313,593 concurrent users.

While this is an impressive start, the full picture isn’t clear, as Microsoft and Sony do not disclose Xbox and PlayStation player counts. However, FromSoftware has now shed light on the scale of Elden Ring Nightreign’s launch with the announcement of two million copies sold.

Elden Ring was a massive commercial success, selling 30 million copies since its 2022 launch. While Nightreign is unlikely to match that level of success, it is worth noting that the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion sold five million units in its first three days back in 2024. It will be interesting to see if Nightreign’s sales figures for the same period are announced.

Despite the strong player numbers, Elden Ring Nightreign faces some challenges. Its user review rating on Steam is currently 'Mixed,' with players citing the lack of two-player co-op and voice chat as key issues. Other complaints focus on the punishingly difficult solo mode and the challenge of gathering a full three-player squad. A patch aimed at rebalancing the solo experience is scheduled for release next week.

As noted in IGN's Elden Ring Nightreign review: “Let’s address the most important caveat upfront: if you plan to play Nightreign entirely solo and are not a hardcore Elden Ring enthusiast who actively seeks to increase the game's already steep challenge, then Nightreign is not for you. While a single-player option exists, it is so poorly balanced that I would be surprised if it isn't patched and adjusted within the first month. This is coming from someone deeply immersed in this genre.”
