FromSoftware has recognized matchmaking difficulties in Elden Ring Nightreign during its debut weekend, providing guidance for affected players.
On May 31, FromSoftware posted on social media to assist players facing challenges connecting with others for expeditions in the multiplayer Elden Ring spin-off. The developer recommended restarting the matchmaking process if issues arise. While not a comprehensive fix, this indicates FromSoftware’s awareness of the problem. “We appreciate your patience and support,” the statement concluded.
In a follow-up post, FromSoftware highlighted specific issues on PlayStation consoles. Players on PS4 and PS5 struggling with matchmaking were advised to verify their NAT type. “A NAT type 3 may disrupt matchmaking on PSN,” the developer noted.
Check your NAT type with these steps: Home > Settings > Network > Connection Status > Check Connection StatusNo specific guidance for Xbox has been provided yet.
Yesterday, producer Yasuhiro Kitao shared on social media that Elden Ring Nightreign achieved remarkable sales, moving 2 million units on its first day.
“Nightreign introduces unique game design elements, distinct from our recent projects,” Kitao remarked. “We’re thrilled that so many players have embraced this new world, and we’re deeply grateful for your enthusiasm.”
“Like Demon’s Souls or Sekiro, Nightreign may feel daunting initially, but it offers its own distinct challenges and rewards. Overcoming the early obstacles will deliver a unique sense of achievement.”
“We hope you find it rewarding.”
What could this social media post be addressing? Nightreign currently holds a ‘mixed’ user review rating on Steam, with criticism focusing on its punishing solo mode, absence of duo co-op, lack of voice chat, and outdated mechanics. The challenge of assembling a three-player team for multiplayer remains a hallmark of the Elden Ring Nightreign experience. A patch to ease solo gameplay is slated for release next week.
As noted in IGN’s Elden Ring Nightreign review: “A key point to address upfront: if you’re planning to play Nightreign entirely solo and aren’t an avid Elden Ring enthusiast who thrives on making an already tough game harder, this title may not suit you. While a single-player mode exists, its balance is so off that it’s likely to see patches within the first month. This perspective comes from someone who thrives on these challenging games.”
