Disney+ has released a new trailer for Daredevil: Born Again, premiering March 4th. This footage confirms a surprising twist revealed in the D23 trailer: Daredevil and Kingpin, longtime adversaries, are teaming up against a common threat—the artistically inclined serial killer, Muse. But who is this villain, and why would he force such an unlikely alliance?

Who Is Muse?

Muse, a relatively recent addition to Daredevil's rogues gallery, debuted in 2016's Daredevil #11, created by Charles Soule and Ron Garney (Soule himself confirmed Muse's appearance in the D23 footage). This villain is a chillingly artistic serial killer, viewing murder as the ultimate expression of creativity. His first appearance involved a mural painted with the blood of a hundred missing persons; later, he composed a macabre piece using the corpses of six Inhumans.

What makes Muse particularly dangerous to Daredevil is his unique ability to disrupt Matt Murdock's radar sense, effectively turning his body into a sensory black hole. Combined with superhuman strength and speed, this makes him one of Daredevil's deadliest foes.

Muse's rivalry with Daredevil and his sidekick, Blindspot, escalates when he blinds Blindspot. After his capture, Muse self-mutilates, destroying his ability to create art. However, his hands are healed, and he escapes, resuming his bloody spree. He becomes obsessed with New York's vigilantes, creating twisted tributes to figures like the Punisher, directly challenging Mayor Wilson Fisk's anti-vigilante campaign. This leads to a final confrontation with Blindspot, resulting in Muse's suicide. While seemingly dead, his return is always a possibility in the Marvel Universe.

Muse in Daredevil: Born Again

The Daredevil: Born Again trailers show Muse, in a costume mirroring his comic book appearance—a white mask and bodysuit with red "bloody tears." His presence suggests the series draws inspiration from contemporary Daredevil comics, rather than solely relying on the 1986 Born Again storyline. While the show explores the Murdock-Fisk rivalry, it takes a different direction.

The trailers hint at an alliance between Daredevil and Fisk, shown meeting in a diner. The implication is a new threat necessitates their cooperation. Could Muse be that threat?

Born Again appears to be influenced by the Soule and Zdarsky Daredevil comics. Fisk, as seen in Echo's post-credits scene, aims for the mayor's office—a position the trailer suggests he achieves. His anti-vigilante campaign directly clashes with Muse's actions, creating a common enemy for both Daredevil and Fisk. Daredevil seeks to stop a killer, while Fisk aims to eliminate a threat to his authority. This forces an uneasy alliance.

The series also features the Punisher and White Tiger, likely caught in the crossfire of Fisk's crusade. Muse's glorification of these vigilantes further fuels the conflict.

While the Daredevil-Fisk rivalry remains central, Muse emerges as the immediate threat, potentially Daredevil's most formidable opponent yet. His powers and bloodlust create a situation where an alliance with Mayor Fisk becomes a necessity.
