Pearl Abyss Rejects PS5 Exclusivity Deal for Crimson Desert, Opting for Independent Publishing
Reports indicate that Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure title Crimson Desert, has declined a PlayStation exclusivity deal offered by Sony. The decision underscores the company's commitment to independent publishing.
Pearl Abyss Remains Independent Despite Sony's Offer
In a statement to Eurogamer, Pearl Abyss confirmed its self-publishing strategy for Crimson Desert, reiterating its previously announced plans. While acknowledging ongoing discussions and collaborations with various partners, the developer emphasized its dedication to independent release.
A playable build of Crimson Desert will be showcased to media this week in Paris, followed by a public demonstration at G-Star in November. The company clarified that no official release date has been set, and any reports suggesting otherwise are purely speculative.
September investor meetings revealed Sony's attempt to secure Crimson Desert as a PS5 exclusive, potentially excluding Xbox platforms for a period. However, Pearl Abyss's internal assessment concluded that self-publishing would yield significantly higher profitability.
While a definitive platform list and release date remain unannounced, Crimson Desert is anticipated to launch on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles around Q2 2025.
