Just when I thought I was out... Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo brothers are pulling me back in! If Marvel's latest announcements are to be believed, Doctor Doom's reign will be more of an era akin to Dark Reign, rather than a fleeting event like last year's Blood Hunt. This means that throughout most of 2025, the Marvel Universe will be under Doom's dominion, with him not only as World Emperor but also as Sorcerer Supreme and the head of the Superior Avengers.

As you might expect, the Superior Avengers will feature villains, though not in their typical forms. Familiar names will be donned by new characters:

  • Abomination: Kristoff, Doom's adopted son and Reed Richards' half-brother, takes on this role.
  • Dr. Octopus: A new female character, not Caroline Trainer (Lady Octopus), will assume this identity.
  • Ghost: A mysterious woman from the Ant-Man universe.
  • Killmonger: A different take on the classic villain.
  • Malekith: The Black Elves will remain on Earth.
  • Onslaught: A formidable addition to the team.

The Superior Avengers series will span six issues, penned by Steve Fox, known for his work on X-Men '92: House of XCII, Dark X-Men, Dead X-Men, and Spider-Woman, with art by Luca Maresca, who has worked on X-Men: Forever and Children of the Vault. The series is slated to launch in April.

This concept isn't entirely new. For instance, during the Dark Avengers storyline in 2009, Norman Osborn replaced the Avengers with villains posing as heroes, including Iron Patriot, Scorpion (as Spider-Man), Moonstone (as Ms. Marvel), Swordsman (as Hawkeye), Daken (as Wolverine), Sentry, Marvel Boy, and Ares. Similarly, in the Secret Empire event, Hydra assembled its own Avengers team, featuring the unworthy Thor, Vision (controlled by Arnim Zola), Scarlet Witch (controlled by Chthon), Deadpool, Superior Octopus, Taskmaster, and Black Ant.

But how did Dr. Doom manage to ascend to such heights? Let's explore the stepping stones that led to "One World Under Doom" to keep you updated.

Table of Contents:

  • Emperor Doom
  • President Doom 2099
  • Secret Wars
  • Blood Hunt

Emperor Doom

While Emperor Doom, the 1987 graphic novel by David Michelinie and Bob Hall, might not be essential reading, it's a classic example of Doom's ambition for global domination. Doom's theft of the Silver Surfer's cosmic power in Fantastic Four #57 showcases his capability to rule on a global scale. The graphic novel's strength lies in its straightforward and compelling premise of a world ruled by Doom.

In Doom 2099, written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Pat Broderick, Doom nearly conquers America, marking a significant era of his rule. His iconic lines like "America is the greatest threat to the planet" and "I'll save the world by protecting America" highlight his ambition and make this one of the standout stories in the Marvel 2099 line.

Secret Wars

When discussing Doom's greatest conquests, one cannot overlook his role in Secret Wars (2015). As the God-Emperor, Doom's actions—from marrying Sue Storm, transforming Johnny Storm into Sunshine, and making Ben Grimm the Wall—reflect his pursuit of power and immortality, all under the guise of benevolent governance. This storyline exemplifies what Doom might do with ultimate power over the Marvel Universe.

Blood Hunt

The most recent continuity leading to "One World Under Doom" is the 2024 Blood Hunt event by Jed McKay and Pepe Larraz. As vampirism spreads due to the Darkhold, Doctor Strange turns to Dr. Doom for help. Doom, asserting that he needs the title of Sorcerer Supreme to wield the necessary magic, convinces Strange to allow him to retain this power, even after the immediate threat is neutralized.

As we await further developments and a completed script from Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo brothers in February, we can dive into a world ruled solely by Doom.
