In recent years, anticipation for a The Last of Us sequel has been palpable online. Despite mixed reactions to the second game, many hoped Naughty Dog would address criticisms in a potential Part III or explore the universe through a spin-off. However, Neil Druckmann's recent comments surprised even the most dedicated fans.
During a joint interview with screenwriter Craig Mazin, Druckmann discussed the HBO adaptation and the games themselves. He revealed his struggles following the sequel's COVID-19 era release. Feeling unwell and isolated, he found himself overwhelmed by online reactions and reviews, leading to self-doubt and questioning the game's quality.
When asked about a third installment, Druckmann sighed, acknowledging the anticipated question. He stated, however, that fans shouldn't expect another The Last of Us game, hinting that the story may be concluded.
