Dungeons and Dragons has officially unveiled the contents of the eagerly anticipated 2024 Monster Manual, the final core rulebook in the Dungeons and Dragons 2024 revamp. Set to release on February 18, the book will be available to D&D Beyond subscribers as early as February 4.
As part of the ongoing effort to refresh the 5th Edition rules for its 10th anniversary, originally known as One D&D, the 2024 update began with the new Player’s Handbook on September 17, followed by the Dungeon Master’s Guide on November 12. Now, with the Monster Manual's release on the horizon, Dungeons and Dragons has provided a sneak peek into what fans can expect from this comprehensive guide.
The 2024 Monster Manual boasts over 500 streamlined stat blocks, featuring 85 brand-new creatures, 40 humanoid NPCs, and variations of well-known monsters such as the primeval owlbear, the vampire umbral lord, and their nightbringer minions. High-level creatures have been enhanced with streamlined attacks, revamped Legendary Actions, and formidable bosses like the CR 21 arch-hag and the CR 22 elemental cataclysm.

In addition to the stat blocks, the Monster Manual offers tools to enhance gameplay. Each monster entry now includes details on their habitats and potential treasure, enriching the narrative and strategic elements of encounters. Furthermore, the gear used by certain monsters is now listed, allowing players to upgrade their equipment with items taken from defeated foes. The book also includes comprehensive lists of monsters sorted by habitat, creature type, and Challenge Rating, consolidating all necessary information for DMs into one convenient resource.
The Monster Manual introduces new sections titled "How to Use a Monster" and "Running a Monster," which provide detailed explanations of stat blocks and practical advice on monster behavior. These sections are designed to assist DMs of all skill levels in maximizing the potential of the creatures within the 2024 Monster Manual.
Notably, the book does not include detailed instructions on creating custom creatures, a feature that was present in the 2014 Dungeon Master’s Guide. However, fans won't have to wait long to explore the full contents of the 2024 Monster Manual, as Hero and Master Tier D&D Beyond subscribers will gain digital access on February 11 and 4, respectively, ahead of the official release on February 18.
