Performance calculator for land vehicles.
MotorSim 2 is a performance calculator for land vehicles. Please note that this application is not a driving game, but rather a realistic physics-based simulation focused on straight-line acceleration.
MotorSim 2 lets you configure key technical specifications and calculates the resulting performance metrics. It features an interactive simulator complete with a speedometer, RPM gauge, throttle and brake controls, and gear shifting (both manual and automatic modes). The simulation includes a procedurally generated engine sound (not sampled) and displays your vehicle's progress along a quarter-mile track. After testing your setup, you can save a ghost car to compare its performance against different configurations.
Configurable vehicle parameters include:
- Max Power
- Power curve (definable point by point)
- Torque curve (automatically derived from the power curve, since power = torque × RPM)
- Max engine RPM (ignition cutoff)
- Gears configuration (up to 10 gears)
- Resistances (drag coefficient, frontal area, and rolling resistance coefficients)
- Vehicle weight
- Tyre size
- Shift time
- Transmission efficiency
Calculated performance metrics include:
- Maximum speed
- Acceleration times: 0-60, 0-100, 0-200, 0-300, and beyond
- ...plus any other performance data you can gather using the interactive simulator
