Nintendo has officially confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch 2 will support cloud saves, putting fan concerns to rest. While early reports caused confusion—thanks to a misleading disclaimer—Nintendo has since clarified the situation with an updated message on its official site.

Originally, the game’s product page stated: “Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature.” That warning sparked understandable concern among players hoping to seamlessly continue their adventures across devices.

What Changed?

Nintendo has now revised the disclaimer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition to read: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch."

This update is reassuring—it means players can transfer their original Switch 1 save files to the Switch 2 version, ensuring continuity for those upgrading systems. However, the reverse isn’t possible: saves made on Switch 2 won’t transfer back to the original hardware. The same policy now applies to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, indicating a consistent approach across enhanced ports.

Switch 2 Pre-Orders Are Live

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 launched recently at the confirmed price of $449.99. Demand has been strong, as expected, with many retailers reporting quick sell-outs. In short: your Tears of the Kingdom progress is safe when moving to Switch 2—just remember, once you save on the new system, there’s no going back to the old one. Plan accordingly!
