The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 will premiere on May 4, 2025, as revealed exclusively at IGN Fan Fest 2025.
During Day 2 of Fan Fest 2025, IGN showcased an exclusive clip and interview featuring Scott Gimple, chief content officer of The Walking Dead universe, alongside Maggie actress Lauren Cohan and Negan actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Cohan shared insights into Maggie’s mindset entering Season 2. “Things aren’t as bright as one might hope,” she said.
“My son is still a teenage boy, and there’s the usual tension of family life. I’m also caring for Ginny, a teenage girl. So, we’re dealing with relatable domestic challenges in Season 2, layered over the struggles of surviving in an apocalyptic world—finding food, staying safe, and getting rest. That’s where we start before another major threat emerges.”
Jeffrey Dean Morgan discussed Negan’s evolution from a hated villain to a beloved character.
“Negan is under the control of The Dama and The Croat, navigating unfamiliar territory,” he explained.
“He’s plotting to turn the tables, as always, but he’s not enjoying his situation. At the start of the season, he’s struggling. Negan’s constantly scheming to gain the upper hand, but he’s in a tough spot.”
Morgan also reflected on Negan’s iconic barbed-wire baseball bat, Lucille, named after his late wife.
“What can I say about Lucille?” he remarked. “I love that prop! It’s the only one I’ve ever enjoyed carrying as an actor. It brings back fond memories for me—though not for Lauren!”
Gimple elaborated on the conflicts in Season 2. “There’s no single villain,” he noted. “The power dynamics shift constantly this season. It’s not purely antagonistic; it’s more intricate, with political undertones that eventually turn physical.”
