There's no denying the excitement that comes with a new installment in the Final Destination franchise hitting the theaters. Final Destination: Bloodlines marks the sixth chapter of this iconic series, and true to form, it features the legendary Tony Todd. Known for his chilling portrayal of the original Candyman, Todd delivered a powerful, unscripted monologue in the film, which producer Craig Perry described as "very bittersweet."
In a recent interview with Deadline, Perry discussed the new film and reflected on his journey with the franchise, which began in 2000. He shared, "We all knew that he was obviously quite ill. And it was pretty clear that this was going to be the last role he would play in a movie, and the fact that it was one of the Final Destination movies made it that much more poignant."
Directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein took a bold step during the filming of Todd's scene. They chose to let him speak from the heart rather than stick to the script. Perry explained, "Our directors, they made a very shrewd decision to take the last couple of lines that were scripted and said, 'Tony, just, say what you would want to say to the fans. What would you like to impart to them in this moment?'" This decision allowed everything that made the scene so emotional to be authentic, as Todd spoke directly to the camera and to the fans who had supported him over the years. Perry described it as "a very magical moment on set," one that left a lasting impact and would stay with him forever.
