Toaplan Releases 25 Classic Arcade Games for Mobile

If you enjoy classic shoot 'em ups, this new app is worth a look. Tatsujin, the game publishing studio behind Amusement Arcade Toaplan on Android, was founded by Masahiro Yuge, a legendary figure from the original Toaplan team.

Chances are, you've played a game influenced by Toaplan. They were once the undisputed masters of arcade shooters. The Japanese developer, established in 1979, created numerous acclaimed arcade titles, especially in the scrolling shooter genre.

Amusement Arcade Toaplan is a new mobile collection celebrating 40 years of the company's legacy. It delivers 25 of their classic titles to Android as authentic arcade ports, true to their original form.

Will You Play Amusement Arcade Toaplan?

The standout title is the legendary shoot 'em up Truxton (1988), which is completely free to play. The app also includes free demo versions of five other games: Tiger Heli, Wardner, Flying Shark, Snow Bros, and Teki-Paki. Full versions of these can be purchased individually.

The remaining games in the collection are Truxton II, Snow Bros. 2, Guardian, Slap Fight/Alcon, Twin Cobra, Rally Bike, Hellfire, Twin Hawk, Demon’s World, Zero Wing, Fire Shark, Out Zone, Vimana, Ghox, Fixeight, Dogyuun, Grind Stormer, Knuckle Bash, and Batsugun. These are also available for individual purchase.

Controls are fully customizable touchscreen, or you can connect a Bluetooth controller or arcade stick. Watch the Amusement Arcade Toaplan trailer below.

It’s Your Virtual Arcade

The app lets you build your own virtual arcade. Each downloaded game appears as a miniature arcade cabinet for you to place anywhere. You can further customize the space with chairs, potted plants, and other items.

The collection features visual filters to mimic a classic CRT monitor look. Settings for difficulty, extra lives, and even an invincibility mode are included. For fans of retro arcade gaming, this collection is available now on the Google Play Store.
