NetherRealm Studios, the developers behind Mortal Kombat 1, have unveiled the first gameplay footage of the highly anticipated DLC guest character, the T-1000, and announced that Madam Bo will join the roster as a DLC Kameo fighter.

The T-1000's gameplay trailer brings back nostalgic elements from Terminator 2, showcasing attacks such as blade and hook arms reminiscent of Baraka and Kabal. The character also demonstrates a unique ability to morph into a liquid metal blob, executing an uppercut similar to Glacius from Killer Instinct.

Adding to the authenticity, actor Robert Patrick, who portrayed the T-1000 in the 1991 film, lends his voice and likeness to the character. The trailer includes a confrontation with Johnny Cage and culminates in a Fatality that recreates the iconic truck chase scene from Terminator 2, with the T-1000 emerging from the vehicle to unleash a barrage of bullets on Cage.

PlayIn a surprising twist, NetherRealm announced that Madam Bo, a beloved character from Mortal Kombat 1's base story, will be available as a Kameo fighter alongside the T-1000. Known for her heroic stand against Smoke and his goons, Madam Bo is briefly showcased in the teaser assisting the T-1000 during a fight with Johnny Cage.

Players can access the T-1000 starting March 18 during the early access period for Khaos Reigns owners, with general availability to follow on March 25. Madam Bo will be available on March 18 as a free update for Khaos Reigns owners or as a standalone purchase.

The T-1000 marks the final addition to Mortal Kombat 1's roster under the Khaos Reigns expansion, joining other notable fighters like Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, and Conan the Barbarian. Speculation continues about the possibility of a third set of DLC characters or a Kombat Pack 3, amidst discussions about the game's sales performance.

Despite uncertainties, Warner Bros. Discovery remains committed to the Mortal Kombat franchise. In November, CEO David Zaslav highlighted plans to focus on four key titles, including Mortal Kombat. Additionally, Mortal Kombat development chief Ed Boon has reassured fans that NetherRealm intends to support Mortal Kombat 1 for the long term, despite having decided on their next project three years ago.

While many anticipate a new installment in the Injustice series, NetherRealm has yet to confirm any such plans. The studio released Injustice: Gods Among Us in 2013 and Injustice 2 in 2017, followed by Mortal Kombat 11 in 2019 and the soft reboot, Mortal Kombat 1, in 2023. In an interview with IGN in June 2023, Boon cited the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to Unreal Engine 4 as factors influencing their decision to focus on another Mortal Kombat game. However, Boon firmly stated that the door is "not at all" closed on the Injustice franchise, leaving fans hopeful for future developments.
