Stardew Valley creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has hinted at the possibility of developing a Stardew Valley 2 in the future.
However, during his interview with TigerBelly, the developer tempered expectations by explaining that expanding the original game is significantly easier than creating an entirely new sequel from the ground up.
"All the core systems are already built," Barone noted. "The foundation work is complete - that's the least enjoyable part of development. When I update Stardew Valley now, I can focus on creative additions like green rain or other whimsical features."
Barone did confirm: "I might eventually make a Stardew Valley 2, to be honest," though he emphasized this remains an uncertain future project.
In the same conversation, Barone shared his desire to evolve beyond being known exclusively for Stardew Valley, which motivated his current work on Haunted Chocolatier. Regarding this new project, he cautioned fans not to expect imminent news about a release date, stating there's "still significant development ahead" as he aims to surpass Stardew Valley's quality.
Our publication initially scored Stardew Valley 8.8/10 ("Great") in our 2016 review, but when re-evaluating the game in 2024, we elevated it to a perfect 10/10, declaring: "Stardew Valley has transcended being merely the best farming simulator to become one of gaming's true masterpieces. Its enduring appeal, demonstrated by players' continued engagement even eight years post-launch, cements its status as the defining title of its genre."
