Spider-Man 2 on PC initially showed promise with surprisingly solid performance based on its system requirements. However, the Nixxes-developed port has launched to 'mixed' Steam reviews, with widespread reports of technical problems.
Currently, only 55% of Spider-Man 2's Steam reviews are positive. "Despite using an RTX 4090 with the latest Nvidia drivers (5.66.36), the game keeps crashing," reported one high-end PC user. Another complained: "Literally unplayable - crashes to desktop every few minutes. I've requested a refund."
"Wait for stability patches before purchasing - this is beyond 'rough'," warned another reviewer. "Cutscenes have missing lighting, run at slideshow framerates, suffer audio desync, plus constant freezing and stuttering. I'm refunding because $70 could be better spent elsewhere right now."
The primary complaint involves frequent graphics driver crashes, even on powerful systems. One error message states: "Display driver issue detected. This may be caused by outdated drivers, excessive graphics settings, GPU overheating, or game errors. Try updating drivers or lowering settings."
Additional reports cite malfunctioning DLSS and ray tracing, along with numerous complaints about extended load times, texture pop-in, and audio glitches.
Several players report performance gradually degrading during extended sessions before culminating in crashes. Some speculate these issues might stem from a memory leak.
Nixxes has acknowledged the crashes on Steam forums, responding: "We regret you're experiencing problems. Please consult our official support site for troubleshooting and contact us with logs if issues persist."
The studio also confirmed awareness of bugs affecting photo missions: "We've identified an issue occurring at very low framerates (under 20 FPS). As temporary solution, reduce graphics settings or resolution to progress past this section."
