On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to announce that Sonic Rumble will hit the global market on May 8, 2025. Accompanying the announcement was a fresh trailer, offering fans a glimpse of the game's dynamic gameplay.

Sonic Rumble marks the first multiplayer party game in the Sonic series, allowing up to 32 players to compete in a variety of levels and gameplay modes. Sega describes the experience as, "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world created by the villainous Dr. Eggman, tackling challenging obstacle courses and intense arenas!"

Given its free-to-play model, concerns about potential pay-to-win mechanics have surfaced. Addressing these worries, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase clarified in an interview with Automaton during the Tokyo Game Show 2024, "We’re aiming for a casual system that allows you to just buy what you want quickly for a small, fixed amount, rather than a gacha system that gives you a certain probability of obtaining items."
