"Sonic Movie Producers to Create Live-Action Toys 'R' Us Film"

In an unexpected turn of events, a live-action movie inspired by the iconic toy store, Toys "R" Us, is currently in development. According to Variety, Story Kitchen—the powerhouse behind recent successful video game movie adaptations like the Sonic the Hedgehog series—is set to bring the beloved brand to life on the big screen. Their goal is to encapsulate "that childhood wonder in a modern, fast-paced adventure" that honors the Toys 'R' Us legacy, which spans over seven decades in the toy industry.

Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg, co-founders of Story Kitchen, expressed their enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Toys 'R' Us is a cultural touchstone that continues impacting the child in all of us today. As '80s kids who considered Toys 'R' Us one of the most magical places on Earth, we’re honored to partner to create a film that will capture the spirit of adventure, creativity, and nostalgia that Toys 'R' Us represents.”

The film draws inspiration from classics such as Night at the Museum, Back to the Future, and Big, as well as modern toy-to-movie successes like Barbie. While details about the cast remain under wraps, Johnson, Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Elena Sandoval will produce for Story Kitchen, with Kim Miller Olko of Toys "R" Us Studios joining them as a producer.

Story Kitchen has been on a roll, recently announcing a film adaptation of Square Enix's Just Cause with Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto at the helm. They are also working on adaptations of Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, and Sleeping Dogs, showcasing their versatility and commitment to bringing beloved stories to new audiences.
