Ubisoft is setting sail for an ambitious Year 2 for Skull and Bones, aiming to elevate the pirate multiplayer game to new heights with a slew of major content additions. These include new modes, ships, the introduction of a Kraken, and a much-anticipated feature: land combat.
During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its treasure trove of plans for the next year of updates. The highlight of the presentation was Season 3: Guts and Glory, set to launch this fall, which will finally bring the long-awaited land combat feature to Skull and Bones. Since its initial launch last February, fans have been eager for this addition, and Season 3's Rogue Warlord content will allow players to engage in swordfights and use firearms on land. Players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled crewmembers known as Officers. A teaser video gave a glimpse of what to expect, but we'll need to wait until later this year to see the full implementation.
While land combat is the star attraction of Year 2, Ubisoft's roadmap is brimming with exciting content throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, which launches today, April 15, introduces a loot-enhancing item ascension feature, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, slated for summer 2025, will feature Megaforts and the gargantuan Frigate large ships. Season 4: Eye of the Beast, arriving this winter, promises to bring the Kraken, Hunter's Guild, and the Corvette large ship into play.
If you're intrigued by what's on the horizon, you'll be thrilled to know that Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 – 21. This gives players a chance to experience pirate PvP firsthand and also purchase the game at a discounted price, though the exact discount remains undisclosed.
Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, receiving a 7/10 in our review. Although Ubisoft has not released official sales figures, it did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after launch. Notably, the release of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.
