IGN can reveal that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable in an Australian museum in September 2025. Team Cherry's eagerly awaited game has been topping the Steam wishlist chart for years, and while the studio, based in Adelaide, South Australia, has only given a broad 2025 release window, fans can look forward to experiencing it at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, starting September 18.

Silksong will be featured at the Melbourne museum as part of the Game Worlds exhibition, which will also showcase the game's design and artistic direction. This event offers a unique opportunity to delve into the intricacies of the game's development.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their excitement, stating: “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!”

As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, shown below, which is one of several design elements that will be on display in the Game Worlds exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with permission.

Hollow Knight fans are eagerly anticipating the game's release, especially with the news that it will be playable at ACMI from September 18. This suggests a possible release before that date, perhaps even as early as August. The excitement around Silksong has been building, with the game making a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, reaffirming the 2025 release window. This was the most significant update on Silksong in years, featuring new gameplay footage and confirming Team Cherry’s updated launch plans.

Initially announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, Silksong will also be available on Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The game has been the subject of numerous intriguing teases over the years, including a mysterious tease related to a chocolate cake recipe at the start of 2025, sparking hope among fans for a re-reveal in April.
