If you're a fan of the Silent Hill series, here’s some exciting news: [Silent Hill f] is set to break away from its predecessors by offering a fresh, standalone narrative. Unlike sequels, it promises to deliver a story that’s independent of the main series, much like [Silent Hill 2] did before it. This bold move comes directly from the publisher, Konami, which confirmed on X/Twitter that this latest installment will be a brand-new title designed for both newcomers and long-time fans alike.
While this concept isn’t entirely unfamiliar within the Silent Hill universe—considering that titles like [Silent Hill 1], [Silent Hill 3], and [Silent Hill Origins] share connections, whereas others such as [Silent Hill 2] operate more independently—the confirmation from Konami ensures that understanding [Silent Hill f]’s 1960s Japanese backdrop doesn’t hinge on prior knowledge of the broader series.
Taking place in 1960s Japan, [Silent Hill f] follows Shimizu Hinako, a young woman grappling with societal pressures and familial expectations. The game’s storyline is crafted by Ryukishi07, the mind behind the acclaimed [When They Cry] visual novel series. In fact, the [Japanese-language reveal trailer] released earlier this year marked the first time a Silent Hill game received an 18+ rating in Japan.
Currently in development, the game's certification status remains fluid. However, previous entries in the series—such as [Silent Hill], [Silent Hill 2], [Silent Hill 3], and [Silent Hill: The Room]—all earned ratings of CERO:C (suitable for ages 15+), while international releases often fell into similar age brackets. Similarly, [Silent Hill f] carries an M (Mature) rating in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z (adults-only) in Japan.
For now, an official release date remains unannounced, and details regarding [Townfall], another upcoming Silent Hill project from No Code, remain scarce.
