A former Respawn employee revealed on LinkedIn that the studio canceled a multiplayer shooter set in the Titanfall universe. The project, in development for years, was abruptly terminated this week with no explanation provided.
Last year, journalist Jeff Grubb clarified that the game was not Titanfall 3 but a separate endeavor. Respawn assembled a dedicated "experimental team" of multiplayer shooter experts to work on it.
The studio previously shelved another project, an arcade shooter codenamed Titanfall Legends, which was discontinued last year.
The Titanfall franchise is celebrated for its fast-paced mix of pilot combat and mech piloting, allowing players to switch between agile pilots and formidable Titans. Since its 2014 debut, the series has earned acclaim for its innovative parkour and team-based gameplay.
Respawn is now prioritizing the third Star Wars Jedi game and a new Star Wars strategy title, developed in partnership with Bit Reactor.
