A Nintendo Switch 2 port of Red Dead Redemption 2 may arrive before the end of 2025, with rumors also pointing to a next-gen enhancement for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
This comes from GameReactor, citing unnamed sources "close to Rockstar," who claim that a version of the acclaimed open-world title is in development for Nintendo’s upcoming console. Alongside this, a “next-gen upgrade patch” is reportedly in the works, offering performance improvements not only for newer consoles but also for current-gen systems.
While specifics remain scarce, GameReactor's insiders suggest both the Switch 2 port and the enhancement patch could launch as early as later this year.
This aligns with earlier reports from Nintenduo, which stated that the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is expected to release within Take-Two’s current fiscal year—ending March 31, 2026. It remains unknown whether the game will be available exclusively through digital storefronts or if a physical edition will also be offered.
We called *Red Dead Redemption 2* a "masterpiece" at launch in 2018, awarding it a perfect 10/10. IGN's Red Dead Redemption 2 review praised the game as "a meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era."Bringing such a celebrated title to the Nintendo Switch 2 wouldn’t be entirely unexpected. During a recent investor Q&A following Take-Two’s latest earnings report, CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed strong optimism about Nintendo’s new platform. He also noted that Nintendo has improved its support for third-party developers compared to previous console launches.
“We're launching four titles with Nintendo Switch 2, and that's I think a bigger array of releases than we've ever offered before with a new Nintendo platform,” Zelnick explained. “Historically, being a third-party in the Nintendo business has been a bit challenging. I think Nintendo has been very forthcoming in addressing that. And we're stepping up too, because we have great optimism for the platform.”
He continued: “In terms of what we would bring to any platform, we address it on a case-by-case basis. We obviously want to be where the consumers are. But we would not necessarily bring every title to every platform. There are also great catalog opportunities as well.”

Among the confirmed titles coming to the Switch 2 from Take-Two are Civilization 7 (launch day, June 5), entries in the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (release details TBA), and Borderlands 4 (September 12). These choices aren’t particularly surprising, considering Take-Two already published these franchises on the original Nintendo Switch.
Still, Zelnick’s comments hint at broader possibilities for future releases—including interest in bringing more catalog titles to the system. While GTA 6 seems unlikely, older hits like GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 could find their way to the Switch 2 audience.
