Fans of the iconic action hero can rejoice as Rambo is set to make a thrilling return with a prequel titled "John Rambo," directed by Jalmari Helander, known for his work on "Sisu" and "Big Game." According to Deadline, Millennium Media, the production company behind the "Expendables" and "Has Fallen" series, as well as the 2008's "Rambo" and 2019's "Rambo: Last Blood," is launching this new project at the Cannes market.

The Cannes market, held concurrently with the Cannes Film Festival, is a premier event where film projects seeking funding or distribution partners are showcased to potential investors. "John Rambo" is set to be a prequel, taking place during the Vietnam War, serving as a backstory to the 1982 classic "First Blood." While no casting has been confirmed, it's known that original star Sylvester Stallone is aware of the project but not involved at this stage.

The screenplay for "John Rambo" has been penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, who have previously worked on "The Mauritanian" and "Black Adam." Filming is scheduled to commence in Thailand starting in October. Given Helander's track record with the high-octane, action-packed "Sisu" from 2023, which reimagined the John Wick formula with an elderly Finnish commando battling Nazis during the Lapland War, expectations are high for his take on the Rambo legacy.
