World of Warcraft has announced a delay in the launch of the eagerly anticipated second Plunderstorm event due to unforeseen challenges. Originally slated for a return on January 14, 2025, fans will need to exercise a bit more patience before diving back into this thrilling pirate-themed battle royale mode. World of Warcraft remains committed to launching Plunderstorm before the day is over, but a precise timeline remains elusive.
Introduced during the Dragonflight expansion in 2024, Plunderstorm captivated players with its unique blend of high-seas adventure and intense competition. The upcoming event promised to bring back the excitement with both classic and fresh rewards for the community to claim.
Despite the initial plan for a six-hour maintenance window, unforeseen complications extended it to eight hours, with servers expected to be back online at 3 PM PST. However, as WoW community manager Kaivax shared in a forum post during this extension, "unexpected issues" have further delayed Plunderstorm's availability. While the team at World of Warcraft is working diligently to resolve these issues, no additional estimates for the event's launch have been provided.
In the meantime, World of Warcraft has successfully restored its regular servers, allowing players to continue their adventures. Those awaiting Plunderstorm can take advantage of this period to tackle their Siren Isle weeklies, embark on the second week of the Turbulent Timeways event, or explore other engaging activities within The War Within expansion.
The second iteration of Plunderstorm introduces exciting new elements like the Plunderstore and an accessible game event interface, which might have contributed to the unexpected delays. World of Warcraft's team is focused on resolving these issues swiftly, so players can soon return to the exhilarating world of pirate battles and treasure hunts.
Despite the delay, the new Plunderstorm Twitch Drops campaign remains unaffected and is currently live. By watching four hours of any World of Warcraft stream on Twitch before February 4 at 10 AM PST, players can secure the exclusive Coward’s Azure Target back transmog. Notably, the streamer does not need to be playing Plunderstorm for viewers to progress toward earning this item, providing a great opportunity for fans to stay engaged while awaiting the game mode's return.
