Survival of the Fittest is among the most challenging tasks in Phasmophobia due to its restrictive conditions. You're tasked with correctly identifying the ghost without relying on traditional evidence or the safety net of sanity.

This challenge takes place at 42 Edgefield Road, a house-style map known for its narrow corridors and tight spaces, which can make ghost tracking and evasion especially tough.

Tips & Tricks To Complete Survival of the Fittest in Phasmophobia

Upon arriving, keep in mind that traditional evidence is off-limits. Your equipment loadout excludes standard tools like Ghost Writing Books and DOTs Projectors, and you won't have Video Cameras either.

Instead, focus on the ghost's unique behaviors, such as movement speed and model. Utilize the tools you do have effectively. For instance, use the Parabolic Microphone to catch the distinct screams of a Banshee or the frequent sounds of a Myling. Salt on the floor can help identify a Wraith, while lighting three Firelights in succession might reveal an Onryo. If you're struggling, refer to our comprehensive guide on No Evidence ghost behaviors.

You start with virtually no setup time (just five seconds) and zero sanity, making you instantly susceptible to ghost hunts. Sanity can't be restored, even with the two Sanity Medications provided. Despite these conditions, the ghost will remain highly active, and frequent events can help you identify its unique behaviors. The ghost can roam, but its favorite room remains constant, which is crucial to remember.

Most doors start partially open, complicating the task of pinpointing the ghost's location. However, the fuse box will be functional and start on, which is a rare advantage. All nine hiding spots at 42 Edgefield Road will be available, offering ample opportunities to evade during hunts.

You're provided with one specific Cursed Possession for this challenge—the Monkey Paw. While risky, especially in solo play, it can be beneficial. Using it to "wish for knowledge" will burn out incorrect evidences and ghost types in your Journal, narrowing down your options. However, this wish comes at a steep price: you'll be temporarily blinded and deafened, and a Cursed Hunt will initiate nearby. This strategy is best suited for group play, where one player can serve as a sacrificial decoy without endangering the entire mission.

To access Challenge Mode, navigate to the Difficulty Settings in the Main Menu. Choose either Singleplayer or Multiplayer to start a new lobby. Then, select the Difficulty tab above your character ID. Scroll to find Challenge Mode and select 'Apply'. Remember to manually select 42 Edgefield Road from the Maps board, as Challenge Mode doesn't automatically choose the location.

Completing the challenge three times is necessary to earn the full $5,000 base reward. You only need to correctly identify the ghost during each investigation.
