Palworld's latest update, version 0.5.0, is a game-changer, introducing crossplay across all platforms, which means you can now play with friends regardless of what device they're using. This monumental update also adds the ability to store and transfer Pal data through the new Global Palbox, making it easier to manage your Pals across different worlds. But that's not all; the update includes a Dimensional Pal Storage system that offers 10 times the capacity of the regular Palbox. This new storage can be used by guild members or set to private for personal use, giving you flexible options for organizing your Pals and resources.
For those who love to customize their characters, the update introduces a cosmetic armour system, allowing you to change your character's appearance without affecting your armour stats. This is perfect for players who want to look good while maintaining their gear's effectiveness. The addition of a photo mode lets you capture your adventures in stunning detail, while the new Drafting Table feature lets you upgrade your blueprints, opening up more possibilities for crafting and building.
Mac users will be pleased to know that dedicated servers are now available, ensuring a smoother gaming experience. Developer Pocketpair is also working on dedicated servers for the PlayStation 5 version, with a release planned for the future.
Since its early access launch in January 2024, Palworld has amassed an incredible 32 million players. The studio has laid out an ambitious content roadmap for 2025, promising an "ending scenario" and more exciting features for this popular creature-catching survival game.
Palworld debuted on Steam for $30 and was simultaneously available on Game Pass for Xbox and PC, breaking sales and concurrent player records. The game's launch was so successful that Pocketpair struggled to manage the massive profits it generated. However, the studio quickly capitalized on its success by signing a deal with Sony to create Palworld Entertainment, a new business focused on expanding the Palworld IP and bringing the game to PS5.
Amidst the excitement, Palworld faces a legal challenge from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, who have filed a lawsuit claiming that Palworld infringes on "multiple" patent rights. In response, Pocketpair has identified the patents in question and made changes to how players summon Pals in the game. The studio remains committed to defending its position in court.
