Capcom unveils fresh gameplay footage for its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal also confirms the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi as the game's protagonist.
A new trailer debuted during PlayStation's State of Play showcase, offering a captivating glimpse into the game's sword-focused combat and imposing enemies. Despite its 2026 release date, the game's visuals and action sequences are already impressive.
The game features Miyamoto Musashi, a renowned Japanese swordsman, whose historical prowess is faithfully reflected in his unparalleled swordsmanship within the game. The trailer also highlights his mischievous and humorous personality.
Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the late Toshiro Mifune, a legendary Japanese actor known for his portrayals of Musashi in various samurai films.
The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha series in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
