Omori’s European publisher, Meridiem Games, has announced the cancellation of the game’s physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. This decision has left many fans disappointed and eager to understand the reasons behind this move.
Meridiem Games took to Twitter(X) to share the unfortunate news, attributing the cancellation to technical difficulties encountered during the multilingual European localization process. When pressed for more details by a Twitter(X) user, the publisher could only reiterate the information provided in their initial statement, leaving fans with little insight into the specific issues.
The physical release of Omori in Europe was initially slated for March 2023, according to listings on platforms like Amazon. However, this date was pushed back to December 2023, and then again to March 2024. Those who pre-ordered were later informed via email from Amazon that the release would be delayed once more to January 2025. These repeated delays have now led to the complete cancellation of the physical release.
This cancellation is particularly disheartening for European fans, as it would have marked the first time Omori was officially available in Spanish and other European languages. While European fans can still acquire physical copies of the game for Switch and PS4, they will need to import from the US.
Omori is a captivating RPG that follows the journey of Sunny, a young boy grappling with isolation after a traumatic event. The narrative unfolds across two worlds: the real world and Sunny’s dream world, where he assumes the identity of Omori. Originally launched on PC in December 2020, the game later expanded to include Switch, PS4, and Xbox platforms in 2022. However, due to controversy surrounding an inappropriate T-shirt design sold by OMOCAT in 2013, the game was removed from the Xbox platform, leaving it inaccessible to Xbox players.
