Nvidia unveiled the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti in April 2025, and now, the more budget-friendly RTX 5060 is hitting the market after its announcement at Computex.

Starting at just $299, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 packs 3,840 CUDA cores spread across 30 Streaming Multiprocessors, making it a solid choice for 1080p gaming. Nvidia boasts that the RTX 5060 can achieve an impressive 223 fps in Doom: The Dark Ages at 1080p with max settings, but this performance is contingent on using 4x multi-frame generation.

The key feature Nvidia is promoting with this new generation of GPUs is Multi-Frame Generation, and the RTX 5060 fully supports this along with the entire DLSS 4 technology suite. However, with only 30 SMs, there are limits to what DLSS can achieve.

Remember, the $299 price is just a starting point. While some models will be available at this entry-level price, many RTX 5060 variants will be pricier, often featuring extras like factory overclocking and RGB lighting.

Reviews Are Coming... Later

Despite its affordable price tag, it's wise to hold off on buying the RTX 5060 until independent reviews are available. Nvidia's performance claims are based on Multi-Frame Generation, and real-world performance remains to be seen.

Unfortunately, reviews will take a bit longer to arrive this time. Unlike with the RTX 5090 launch, Nvidia isn't providing early drivers to reviewers, so expect a delay of about a week before seeing in-depth reviews. While the RTX 5060 should be a capable 1080p GPU, the broader Blackwell series has shown challenges in delivering significant generational improvements.

There's a chance the RTX 5060 might mirror the performance gains seen in the RTX 5070 compared to its predecessor, especially in traditional gaming scenarios without frame generation. Nvidia claims the RTX 5060 could offer double the performance of the RTX 4060 with frame generation enabled, but only about a 20% increase in games without ray tracing or frame generation – and that's under optimal conditions.

As with any high-cost tech purchase, waiting for reviews is the best strategy to ensure you're getting your money's worth. Those reviews are on their way, but they might take a few extra days to appear.
