Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the innovative Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls not just in games, but also on the Home screen. Ever since the unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, fans have been buzzing with excitement and speculation about the capabilities of the new Joy-Con's mouse controls. Last month, we received the official word that the Joy-Con can indeed operate in "mouse mode," allowing players to glide the controllers across surfaces and use the analog sticks to mimic left-click and right-click actions, much like a traditional mouse. What's more, two Joy-Con can be used in mouse mode at the same time, either one in each hand or one in standard mode and the other in mouse mode, offering versatile control options.

Now, thanks to a demonstration on the Nintendo Today app and a subsequent post on X/Twitter, we have a clearer picture of how these mouse controls will enhance the user experience on the Switch 2's Home menu.

Nintendo has detailed the process, explaining that "if you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen." To activate the cursor, simply set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or any flat surface and move it as instructed. "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus," Nintendo further elaborated, "[and] use mouse controls on the Home menu and in compatible software." To revert to using the thumbstick, just reposition the Joy-Con 2 horizontally.

While the full list of mouse-compatible games remains undisclosed, Nintendo has already demonstrated the technology working seamlessly with the Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.
