Hori's Nintendo Switch 2 Piranha Plant camera, although officially licensed by Nintendo, comes with a resolution of just 480p, significantly lower than Nintendo's own Switch 2 camera, which boasts a 1080p video capture quality. The UK My Nintendo Store has confirmed these specifications, highlighting the difference in camera quality between the two options.

Priced lower than Nintendo’s $49.99 camera, Hori's Piranha Plant camera offers a unique feature where the webcam part can detach from the pot, allowing for direct placement on top of the Switch 2. This design enhances its portability, a feature not found in Nintendo’s camera. Additionally, users can close the plant’s mouth to cover the lens, adding a playful element to the accessory. Both cameras are set to launch alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, and gamers can also use any compatible USB-C camera with the console.

The revelation of the Piranha Plant camera's resolution sparked a wave of reactions among Nintendo fans. Reddit user Ramen536Pie questioned, "How do you even make a 480p camera in 2025? That must be harder to do than a 1080p camera." LizardsoftheGhost found it amusing, suggesting, "Maybe they meant to release this back when the Wii U came out." Meanwhile, pokemonfitness1420 humorously asked, "Isn't 480p a crime nowadays?"
