Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games

Nintendo has recently announced the pricing for upgrading two popular Switch games to their Switch 2 Editions, namely Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. The cost of these upgrades is significantly higher than what fans might have anticipated.

For comparison, upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from their original Switch versions to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each. However, as noted by NintendoLife, the upgrade packs for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are more than double this price.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integrates with the new "Zelda Notes" service available through the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Breath of the Wild on the Switch can purchase an "upgrade pack" for $10 to enjoy these enhancements.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land includes new story content titled "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, the Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Party Jamboree introduces "Jamboree TV," a new suite of content utilizing the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. These editions also boast upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, enhanced frame rates, new minigames, and expanded online functionality.

While the U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are yet to be confirmed—possibly due to fluctuations related to President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99, significantly higher than the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. The Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade is similarly priced at £16.99 / €19.99, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99.

The high upgrade cost may be influenced by the $80 price tag of both Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. This is $20 more than their original Switch versions, which are priced at $59.99 each.

For those not upgrading, here are the U.S. prices for the full Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games:

It's worth noting that Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom upgrade packs are available at no additional cost for Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. Unfortunately, no such offer exists for upgrading Kirby or Party Jamboree at this time.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. Demand was predictably high, leading Nintendo to warn U.S. customers applying for pre-orders through the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery could not be guaranteed.
