Nintendo Confirms 60-Minute Switch 2 Direct

Nintendo has confirmed that the upcoming Switch 2 Nintendo Direct will run for approximately 60 minutes, which is unusually long for such an event. This extended duration indicates that Nintendo has a substantial amount of content to showcase in this highly anticipated presentation.

The Switch 2 Nintendo Direct is scheduled to begin on April 2, 2025, at 6am PDT / 9am EDT / 2pm BST. Nintendo plans to use this Direct to provide a "closer look" at the Switch 2, following its brief reveal earlier in the year. That initial reveal gave fans a glimpse of the Switch 2's form factor, a potential sneak peek at Mario Kart 9, and a tease of a new 'mouse' mode for the updated Joy-Con controllers.

Despite these early glimpses, several mysteries remain about the Switch 2, including the function of the new Joy-Con 'C' button, the console's power capabilities, and the purpose of its new ports.

During the Nintendo Direct, fans are eagerly anticipating a reveal of the full Switch 2 launch lineup of games, a release date expected sometime between June and September 2025, and hopefully, the Switch 2's price, which analysts predict could be around $400.

As excitement builds, a clearer picture of the Switch 2's gaming potential is emerging. Rumors suggest a robust lineup of third-party titles, and in an interview with IGN, the developer of Civilization 7, Firaxis, expressed interest in the Switch 2's apparent Joy-Con mouse mode, calling it "definitely intriguing." French video game and accessories maker Nacon, known for titles like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed that it has games ready for the Switch 2. There's also buzz about the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong potentially arriving on the new console. Additionally, EA has indicated that titles like Madden, FC, and The Sims would be well-suited for the Switch 2.

Last week's Nintendo Direct announcement introduced a new Virtual Game Cards feature for sharing games between systems, sparking further curiosity about the Switch 2, especially after a footnote on an official Nintendo webpage hinted at additional details.

In addition to the Direct, Nintendo has scheduled a Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 presentation for hands-on gameplay demonstrations of Switch 2 games on April 3 and April 4 at 7am PT each day.
