The excitement surrounding The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 via the GameCube library has sparked discussions about potential ports. According to Nate Bihldorff, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of product development, the availability of a game on Nintendo Switch Online does not rule out the possibility of a remaster or remake. In an interview with Kinda Funny's Tim Gettys, Bihldorff emphasized that all options remain open for fan-favorite titles like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, which have yet to be ported to either the original Nintendo Switch or the Switch 2.
Despite The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker being available on the Wii U in 2013 and soon to be part of Nintendo's premium subscription service when the Nintendo Switch 2 releases on June 5, fans are hopeful for a full remaster. Bihldorff's comments suggest that Nintendo is keeping its options open, stating, "All options are on the table," and hinting that the presence of a game on Nintendo Switch Online does not preclude further releases or remakes.
The announcement came during last week's Nintendo Direct presentation, where it was revealed that GameCube titles are being added to the Nintendo Switch Online premium library. This update will bring a host of classic 2000s-era titles to subscribers, including F-Zero GX, Soulcalibur 2, and, of course, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. These games will be available at launch this summer, with future additions teased to include Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Strikers, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, and more.
In other news, the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order date in the United States faced delays due to import tariffs, causing financial market fluctuations. This issue also affected Nintendo Canada, which confirmed similar delays in pre-orders.
