Chatacabra, a massive frog-like monster, primarily relies on close-range tongue attacks but may charge if you're too distant. As one of the easiest foes in the game, it’s vulnerable to most weapons. However, its compact size makes weapons like the Bow or Charge Blade slightly less effective compared to others, as multi-hit attacks shine against larger enemies.
Most Chatacabra attacks center on its tongue, posing the greatest threat when you're directly in front. It also slams its front limbs into the ground, always signaled by rearing up first. The only attack to watch for when behind it is a head-raised tongue sweep that arcs backward.
To defeat it, stay near its sides, dodging or blocking when it rears for a slam. Pair this with Ice or Thunder elemental weapons to bring Chatacabra down swiftly, earning its materials for crafting in no time.
Capturing monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds follows a standard process, and Chatacabra’s inability to fly simplifies things. Bring a Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap and two Tranq Bombs. For safety, consider packing both trap types and up to eight Tranq Bombs to account for any mishaps.
Battle Chatacabra until a skull icon appears on its mini-map marker, indicating it’s weakened and limping to a new area. Follow it, set a trap, and lure it in. Once trapped, deploy two Tranq Bombs to knock it out, completing the capture.
