Despite the risks, players of *Marvel Rivals* continue to use mods, even after a strict crackdown coinciding with the launch of Season 1. Since the game's highly successful debut in December, fans have been customizing skins, transforming characters like Iron Man into Vegeta from *Dragon Ball* and Mantis into a goth, and even morphing Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita from *Chainsaw Man*.

Last week, with the introduction of the Fantastic Four and the start of Season 1, *Marvel Rivals* implemented a new mod restriction through asset hash checking. Developer NetEase reiterated to IGN that the game's terms and conditions strictly prohibit mods, cheats, bots, hacks, or any unauthorized third-party software. They had previously cautioned players about the risks of modding, emphasizing in a statement to IGN: "It is not recommended to modify any game files, as doing so carries the risk of getting banned."

Yet, some players remain undaunted. A new workaround has emerged and is spreading rapidly online. Although it requires more effort than before, it's still accessible for most PC users. Modder Prafit, who shared the workaround on Nexus Mods, cautioned users: "Use at your own risk," Prafit wrote in the mod's description. "By using this, you are circumventing a system designed to prevent modding from the Season 1 patch start. No one knows if NetEase will ban you, but as far as we know, they have never issued permanent bans."

With the addition of Fantastic Four characters, new mods are emerging. Ercuallo's mod, for instance, transforms Mister Fantastic into Luffy from *One Piece*. This mod has seen over 5,000 downloads on Nexus Mods within just two days of its release.

The ongoing use of mods raises the question of whether NetEase will follow through on its threats to ban players. No instances of bans for modding have been reported yet, but these workarounds might provoke further action from the developers. NetEase's interest in banning mods stems from potential lost revenue from skin sales, intellectual property concerns, and the risk of mods disrupting game balance or performance. Modder Prafit suggested that their temporary workaround is best suited for users with high-performance PCs.
