The much-anticipated sequel to the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot is on the horizon, and fans have been treated to a first glimpse of one of its new characters: the iconic Hollywood actor and fighter, Johnny Cage. Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon unveiled a striking poster featuring Karl Urban, known for his roles in The Boys and Judge Dredd, as Johnny Cage. The poster cleverly mimics a fictional Johnny Cage movie, showcasing two motorcycles dramatically leaping out of flames, adding to the excitement and anticipation for Mortal Kombat 2.

Following the success of the 2021 reboot, which starred Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, and Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Mortal Kombat 2 continues the saga with a fresh lineup of actors. Joining Urban are Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, promising to bring new depth and excitement to the franchise.

While plot details for the sequel remain under wraps, the rich tapestry of storylines from the Mortal Kombat video game series offers ample material for the new movie.

Originally planned for a theatrical release, the first Mortal Kombat movie was diverted to HBO Max due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Mortal Kombat 2 is set to hit theaters on October 24, 2025, much to the delight of fans eager for a big-screen experience. Our review of the first movie praised it as a "spectacular display of blood, guts, and effects-heavy martial arts battles," awarding it a score of 7.
