Jason Momoa's portrayal of Lobo in the upcoming DC Universe film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, set to release in 2026, is generating significant buzz among fans. Known for his role as Aquaman in the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU), Momoa is transitioning to the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) to take on the role of Lobo, a character he has long admired.
Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, possesses superhuman strength and immortality. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, the character first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983. Much like Superman, Lobo is the last survivor of his now-destroyed home world. Momoa has expressed his excitement about embodying Lobo, citing aesthetic similarities between himself and the character.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Momoa hinted at what audiences can expect from Lobo's appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He described the role as one he's always wanted to play and emphasized his nervousness and excitement. While he promised a faithful representation of the character, complete with a cool bike, Momoa also noted that Lobo's screen time would be brief, as the film primarily focuses on Supergirl.
DC co-chief James Gunn recently shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl on Bluesky, marking the start of filming for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The movie draws heavily from the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. It follows the story of an alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills.
The film's cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is slated for release in June 2026, following the DCU's first movie, Superman, set to hit theaters this summer. The DCU's Clayface movie is scheduled for September 2026.
