Thailand might be a world away from Hogwarts, but that hasn't stopped Jason Isaacs, star of The White Lotus Season 3, from sharing his thoughts on who should step into his iconic role as Lucius Malfoy in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter TV series. In a recent interview with Variety centered on his work in The White Lotus, Isaacs proposed a surprising yet intriguing choice: Meryl Streep.
"Meryl Streep," Isaacs declared, praising her versatility. "She can do anything, that woman. There's literally no limit to what she can do." Streep's past performance in the HBO miniseries Angels in America, where she portrayed an elderly male rabbi among other characters, showcases her ability to convincingly play diverse roles, making her a fitting candidate for Lucius Malfoy.
Isaacs first portrayed Lucius Malfoy in the second Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and continued to play the character through to the final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. As for the new adaptation, only one casting has been confirmed at the time of this article's publication.

John Lithgow is set to portray Albus Dumbledore, a role previously filled by Richard Harris and later by Michael Gambon, in the upcoming series. The casting for other key roles, such as Severus Snape, originally played by Alan Rickman, and Minerva McGonagall, originally played by Maggie Smith, appears to be nearing completion. Reports suggest that Black Mirror's Paapa Essiedu is close to being cast as Snape, and Jessica Jones' Janet McTeer is in discussions for McGonagall, though these have not been officially confirmed.
