The cameras are officially rolling on DC's next major cinematic venture, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark this exciting milestone, DC head James Gunn took to Bluesky to share the first glimpse of Milly Alcock in her role as Supergirl, or rather, Kara Zor-El. The photo features Alcock seated in her actor's chair, offering fans a tantalizing first look at the character.

"Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El," Gunn shared in his post. This confirms that Gillespie, known for directing Cruella and I, Tonya, will be steering the ship for this eagerly awaited film, as was previously reported in April.
While details on the plot remain under wraps, it's known that the movie draws heavily from the acclaimed graphic novel Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira. The comic follows a standalone narrative centered on an alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. This gripping tale was nominated for "Best Limited Series" at the 2022 Eisner Awards and is a must-read for fans.
Joining Milly Alcock in the cast are Matthias Schoenaerts, who will portray Krem, and Eve Ridley as Ruthye. The ensemble also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father, Zor-El, Emily Beecham as her mother, and Jason Momoa, who has been recast in the DC universe as the character Lobo.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to be the second film in the newly revamped DC universe, following James Gunn's Superman, which is slated for release this summer. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II (which may or may not tie into Gunn's broader cinematic universe) and a rumored Clayface movie directed by Mike Flanagan.
