YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, recently shared his disappointment in a video titled 'A Bad Month,' revealing that he had been working on an animated show based on the survival horror game Soma, only to see the project fall apart. Soma, developed by Frictional Games—the creators of the Amnesia series—received critical acclaim upon its 2015 release. Jacksepticeye, a long-time fan of the game, had been discussing the animated show with the developers for over a year and was ready to move into full production.

In the video, Jacksepticeye expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "I was planning to do a Soma animated show. Because I love Soma — Soma is top five, top 10 at least video games of all time for me. I absolutely love that game. It has one of the best stories ever in a video game." He had planned to delay playing the game in a single video until the show was announced, but those plans were disrupted when the project abruptly collapsed due to an unnamed party wanting to take the project "in a different direction."

The cancellation left Jacksepticeye "quite upset" and significantly impacted his plans for 2025. He explained, "I had planned a lot of my year around it. I was like, you know what? I won’t be able to upload as much because I’ll be focusing everything I have into that. But at least I’ll have a really cool creative thing to show off." The sudden halt of the project left him feeling frustrated and uncertain about his future priorities.

Following Soma, Frictional Games released two more entries in the Amnesia series: Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In a statement after the release of Amnesia: The Bunker, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip mentioned a shift in focus away from horror games to explore other emotional qualities, aiming to provide players with immersive experiences beyond just fear.
