In a recent interview with Kinda Funny Games, Insomniac Games founder and outgoing president Ted Price shared insights into a project that never came to fruition—Resistance 4. As Price prepares for retirement after an impressive 30-year tenure at the helm of the studio, he reflected on a game pitch that held a special place in his heart.
"Yeah, I’ll share one. Resistance 4," Price revealed when asked about a favorite game concept that was pitched but never materialized. He elaborated that the team at Insomniac Games had a strong passion for extending the Resistance series, which is known for its captivating alternate history setting. "We did pitch that one and it was a wonderful concept, and it just in terms of timing and market opportunity, didn’t work out," Price explained. He emphasized the team's enthusiasm for exploring further the narrative possibilities with the Chimera, the alien antagonists central to the series, and delving deeper into their origins and future developments.
The Resistance franchise, developed by Insomniac Games, consists of three first-person shooters released for the PlayStation 3. The series is set in an alternate history where an alien invasion strikes the UK in 1951. Following the Resistance games, Insomniac shifted focus to other acclaimed projects, including Marvel's Spider-Man and new iterations of Ratchet and Clank.
Ted Price announced his retirement earlier this year, marking the end of his long-standing leadership at Insomniac Games. He has appointed Chad Dezern, Ryan Schneider, and Jen Huang as Co-Studio Heads to succeed him. Under Price's guidance, Insomniac's latest release was Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which recently became available on PC. Looking ahead, the studio is gearing up for the release of Marvel's Wolverine.
