Nu Udra is a challenging adversary in Monster Hunter Wilds due to its massive tentacles, which give it a broad reach and make dodging difficult. However, these tentacles are the closest limbs that melee weapon users can target. Severing them not only provides additional materials but also reduces the monster's reach. Be cautious, though, as these limbs are also powerful weapons in the monster's arsenal.
For players using ranged weapons, there are more attack options available. The best target is the mouth, despite its difficulty to locate due to Nu Udra's nearly pitch-black skin. Attacking the mouth is highly recommended because it has a 4-star weakness. Another good spot to aim for is the head, which has a 3-star weakness to ammo damage but is effective for blunt and cut damage.
Given Nu Udra's affinity for fire, it's wise to use Watermoss in Monster Hunter Wilds. The monster can unleash fire attacks and even set itself ablaze, causing the Fireblight debuff. Shooting Watermoss at Nu Udra will neutralize this threat, allowing you to attack safely without succumbing to the status ailment.
If you're struggling with this fight, equipping gear with fire resistance is highly beneficial. The Quematrice armor set, which includes the Fire Resistance skill, is a great choice. Additionally, consider using decorations like the Fire Res Jewel to reduce fire damage or the Stream Jewel to boost your water attack damage.
Nu Udra's grab attack is one of its most dangerous moves in Monster Hunter Wilds. If you're too close, it may attempt to capture you with its tentacles before unleashing a stream of burning fire. During the brief pause before the fire attack, you can break free using a knife or attack its weak spot with a Slinger.

To capture Nu Udra in Monster Hunter Wilds, you'll need either a Pitfall or Shock Trap. However, you can't set it immediately. First, weaken the monster by attacking it until it's nearly dead; watch for the skull icon next to the boss icon as an indicator. You can also use meat as bait to lure Nu Udra into the trap, but simply running behind the trap while it's targeting you works too. Once trapped, quickly use a Tranquilizer to put it to sleep—you have about five seconds before it breaks free.
This guide covers everything you need to know about defeating and capturing Nu Udra in Monster Hunter Wilds. Tackling this monster solo can be challenging, so consider using multiplayer to bring it down.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
