Gears of War: Reloaded will hit PS5 and Xbox on the same day, marking a major multiplatform launch. Discover what enhancements await fans in this highly anticipated release.
Gears of War, a cornerstone of Xbox’s legacy, is breaking new ground. On May 6, Xbox announced via X that Gears of War: Reloaded will launch across all platforms, including PS5, on August 26.
Xbox is doubling down on its strategy to share its exclusives widely. In a January interview with GamerTag Radio, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer emphasized this approach, saying, “We cherish our platform and hardware, but we won’t limit where players can enjoy the incredible games our studios create.”
This shift suggests that Gears of War: E-Day might also launch across platforms simultaneously, though Xbox has yet to confirm details about its other exclusives.
The reveal of Reloaded caught fans off guard, given the 2015 remaster, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. In a May 5 Xbox Wire post, The Coalition’s Studio Head Mike Crump outlined what’s in store for players.
He shared, “As we near the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we’re celebrating the stories, bonds, and iconic moments this franchise has created. With Reloaded, we’re inviting more players to experience it than ever before.”
Compared to the 2015 Ultimate Edition’s 1080p at 30fps for campaign and 60fps for multiplayer, Reloaded delivers 4K at 60fps in campaign and 120fps in multiplayer. It boasts upgraded 4K assets, revamped textures, enhanced visual effects, improved shadows, reflections, and more.
The post added, “Players will enjoy all post-launch downloadable content at no extra cost, including the bonus campaign act, multiplayer maps, modes, and a full lineup of classic characters and cosmetics unlocked through progression.”
Those who own the Ultimate Edition will receive Reloaded as a free upgrade, with codes sent via direct message to eligible Xbox accounts before launch.
Gears of War: Reloaded launches August 26, priced at $39.99 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. It will be available on day one with Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass.
