The iconic strategy game, ROME: Total War, has just received a significant free update on Android, courtesy of Feral Interactive. Dubbed the Imperium Update, this enhancement introduces numerous gameplay tweaks, improved controls, and quality-of-life features, enhancing the experience for players who have enjoyed this classic since its Android debut in 2018. Fans of the standalone expansions, Barbarian Invasion and Alexander, can look forward to receiving similar updates next week.
The Imperium Update incorporates some of the most successful features from Feral's newer mobile titles, such as Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE. A major highlight is the introduction of three new control options: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection. These new modes enhance your command over units, allowing for more precise battles. Now, you can easily move your armies, agents, or fleets by simply tapping and holding, eliminating the need to drag paths manually.
With Positioning Mode, you can fine-tune the placement of your units by tapping and holding, while the Group Grid feature simplifies managing unit groups through a collapsible selection menu. Melee Mode is a game-changer, enabling ranged units to switch to close combat when necessary, adding tactical depth to your gameplay.
One of the most significant additions is Command Slowdown, which automatically slows the game down when you're issuing complex orders, giving you more control over critical moments. Additionally, keyboard and mouse support has been added for Android and iPad users for the first time, catering to those who prefer more traditional control methods.
The minimap in ROME: Total War has been revamped to resemble the one found in MEDIEVAL II, offering smoother zooming and navigation. A new reset button allows for quick returns to the default view, making it easier to keep track of the battlefield.
The Imperium Update is now available for download on the Google Play Store for all ROME: Total War Android owners. Keep an eye out for the upcoming updates for Barbarian Invasion and Alexander next week, promising to bring similar enhancements to these expansions.
